Words of Welcome, Introduction of Guests & Minute Speak

Celebration Box:

Congratulations to you, May the dear Lord bless you

May God’s special blessing, Descend upon you.

Call to Worship:

May the love of God be with you all.

        And also with you.

People look east, the time is near,

for the coming of the one who brings salvation.

Salvation to the lonely:

The good news that God is with us.

Salvation to the poor of spirit:

The good news that we are lifted up and refreshed    with Gods grace.

Salvation for those who fear:

The good news that we no longer need to fear, for   Christ the liberator is here!

*Hymn:   VU#28   “Herald! Sound the Note of Gladness”

Opening Prayer:

Holy God, your love is the energy that enlivens the universe.  It flows through us, around us, it holds us and inspires us.  In our busyness, we pause to feel your love and give thanks for its sustaining power.

We give thanks that long ago, your love for us became so strong it coalesced into the form of a baby. This child would grow to be a symbol of your love.  We pause to remember, to give thanks, and listen for the voice of love spoken through Jesus.

…We pray to you who is our mother and our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Sacrament of Baptism

Passing of the peace

The sacrament of baptism proclaims and celebrates the grace of God.  By water and spirit,

we are called claimed and commissioned

We are called to be God’s own, welcomed as children of God;

we are invited to walk the path of rebirth, united      with Christ each new day.

We are united with each other in Christian community, commissioned to Christian ministry

A ministry of love, peace and justice, strengthened    by the Holy Spirit, for the work of the church and        the world.

Commitment of parents

Do you believe in God, source of love,

In Jesus Christ, love incarnate?

and in the holy spirit, love’s power?

Parents’ response: We will, God being my helper

Will you share your faith with Ava, encourage and guide her by your words and actions, and walk with her in the way of Jesus?

Parents’ response: We will, God being my helper

Commitment of the congregation

Jesus Christ calls us to make God’s love known to all people and to offer God’s gift of grace in baptism.  Do you who witness and celebrate this sacrament, promise this family your prayers when they are far from us, your care when they are close, and your love no matter where they may be?

Congregation’s response: We do, by the grace of God

A New Creed   (VU Page 918)

We are not alone,

we live in God’s world.

We believe in God:

who has created and is creating,

who has come in Jesus,

the Word made flesh,

to reconcile and make new,

who works in us and others

by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:

to celebrate God’s presence,

to live with respect in Creation,

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.
